Finasteride is a hormone-modulating medicine used mainly for male pattern hair loss.

Used for
• Male Pattern Baldness (Androgenetic Alopecia)
• Prevention of further hair thinning
• Increasing hair density over continued use

How it works
Blocks the conversion of testosterone to DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the hormone responsible for hair follicle shrinkage.

Dose
Commonly 1 mg once daily.

• 5-Alpha Reductase Inhibitor

• Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

  • Reduces enlarged prostate

  • Improves urine flow

  • Decreases risk of urinary retention

• Not used for hair loss at this strength
  (Hair loss uses Finasteride 1 mg)

• Blocks conversion of testosterone to DHT

• Shrinks prostate size

• Relieves urinary symptoms

• 5 mg once daily, with or without food

• Long-term therapy (effects show after 3–6 months)

• Common packs: 10 tablets / 30 tablets / 100 tablets (varies by manufacturer)

• Usually 2–3 years depending on brand

• Adult men only

• Not for women or children

• Pregnant women must not handle crushed/broken tablets

• Regular PSA monitoring is recommended

• May reduce sexual drive or cause erectile difficulty in some patients
